GROW THROUGH PRAYER
“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” (Luke 18:2)
When we talk about spiritual development, many things can contribute to it. It is the same with nature. It is not only food that makes a child grow. Food makes for division of cells and growth in size but exercise makes for growth in function. A child who eats food and does not crawl, walk, run, play, will be obese and useless. Thus, what exercise does to the body is what prayer does to the spirit.
WHAT IS PRAYER?
Prayer is communication with God. The same way you talk to your earthly father is the same way you talk to God in prayer as long as you are born again.
DOES GOD HEAR OUR PRAYER?
Some people say that there are too many people in the world and so God may not have the time to answer every one of them at the same time. Remember that God is Omnipresent and omnipotent so He is in everywhere at the same time and has the ability to do mighty things. He hears whenever you pray.
WHY SHOULD YOU PRAY?
• To ask for things
• To tell God your problems
• To seek to know the will of God in a situation.
TYPES OF PRAYER
There are different types of prayer according to 1 Corinthians 14:14-15, viz:
Praying in your understanding: This means praying in the language you speak and understand. This communicates your problems to God.
Praying in the Holy Ghost (tongues): This is praying in a language you do not understand and you have never learnt in your life. This follows being born again and baptized with the Holy Spirit. According to Jude 1:20 and 1 Corinthians 14:4, when you pray in tongues often, you edify/build up yourself. This kind of prayer makes you grow faster spiritually and in every area of your life.
THE BEST TIME TO PRAY
For some people, mornings are best because their minds are fresh and they are not in a hurry to leave the house while for others nighttimes are the best because they are done with the day’s work. Decide which time of the day that suits you. However don’t rely on comfort. That is a trick of the enemy. You will never find any convenient time. Just make sure you do it every day in a relaxed mood.
So many things compete for our time each day that we do not always find time for prayer. You must find ways to not let the demands of the day interfere with prayer. Some Christians find keeping a prayer journal helpful. Others work at developing a regular pattern, setting aside a time and place to pray each day. Regardless of when we pray, what is truly important is that we learn to pray consistently, for prayer is a vital connection with God.
