Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” Hebrews 1:9
That was the secret of Jesus; He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. No wonder Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” He lived sinless, not because He was the son of God who was Himself God but because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. That verse in Hebrews 4 tells us that he was tempted like as we are in all points. He was faced with all manner of temptations as you are facing now. He was tempted with lack and the desire to take what does not belong to Him, He was tempted with pride, He was tempted with derailment, and so on, yet He did not succumb to them because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. The reward was that God anointed Him and lifted Him above His fellows. “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:” (Philippians 2:6-9).
Beloved, there is reward for choosing to live a holy life, pleasing unto God. Remember Daniel and the three Hebrew boys? They made up their minds not to eat the king’s food because it was dedicated to idol and chose to eat vegetable and water instead. No priest was there to monitor their actions but they chose to do the right thing because they have been trained to love righteousness and hate iniquity. The reward was that they were lifted above their mates and made rulers in the land. Remember Joseph who refused to sleep with Potiphar’s wife even when no one was watching because he feared God. He eventually became the prime minister in a strange land. If you cut corners, forget about distinction. If you willingly dabble into sin from time to time, forget about this oil of distinction.
Beloved, Grace didn’t change the rules of engagement. What Grace does is to enable you live up to expectation.
Genesis 39-41, Daniel 1
<Healed of frequent sickness>
My sister’s 3 year old baby has always been sickly right from birth. Almost every month, she would be sick and be rushed to hospital and admitted. It was a source of concern for me. Before an anointing service, she called and told me her baby was sick, convulsing and dying. I told her to bring the girl to church for anointing service. She did. When daddy was anointing people, she joined the queue with her baby and they were anointed. Since that day, the baby has ever been sick again. Praise God!
